Resound Vivia 9 Hearing Aids Overview
March 2026 Update: The Vivia 9 has automatically been upgraded to the Vivia Pro version. Those who purchased Vivia hearing aids before this date can visit their audiologist for this software update.
Launched in April 2025, the Resound Vivia 9 hearing aids are advanced, AI-powered devices designed to improve hearing with features such as AI-driven sound processing for better speech clarity, noise reduction, and direct streaming. They also come with a mobile app that allows for easy remote control and adjustments on the go.
So far, Resound Vivia 9 has impressed us with its compact size, intuitive design, impressive battery life and a noticeable improvement in speech clarity compared to previous models. It incorporates Deep Neural Network (DNN) artificial intelligence.
Building on the success of Resound’s Nexia hearing aids, Vivia offers three models, including the world’s smallest AI-powered micro-receiver-in-ear (microRIE) hearing aid, as claimed by Resound. All Vivia models feature AI processing, Bluetooth LE Audio with Auracast, and an enhanced Intelligent Focus system that prioritises speech based on where the user is looking.
Top performance level
The top-tier Vivia 9 model delivers the full suite of Resound’s advanced technologies, featuring 17 processing channels and exclusive AI-driven innovations like Intelligent Focus and Clear Focus for exceptional speech clarity—even in the toughest listening environments. It also comes equipped with Environmental Optimiser II, an upgraded Noise Tracker II with five adjustable settings, and maximum-level Streaming Bass Boost, offering an unparalleled hearing experience.

AI-Driven Sound Processing: The Vivia 9 hearing aids are equipped with a deep neural network (DNN) chip that learns from real-world sounds, automatically adapting to optimise sound processing across different environments for clearer, more natural hearing.
Intelligent Focus: This smart feature uses AI to prioritise speech while reducing distracting background noise, ensuring crystal-clear conversations even in noisy settings like cafes or busy streets.
Noise Reduction: Advanced noise reduction technology minimises unwanted ambient sounds, further enhancing speech clarity and making it easier to follow conversations, even in challenging environments.
Direct Streaming: Resound Vivia 9 supports Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast, allowing seamless direct streaming from iOS and Android devices, as well as from public audio systems, like those found in theatres or transport hubs.

Water and Dust Resistance: Rated to IP68 standards, the Vivia hearing aids are resistant to dust and water, ensuring durability even in challenging environments such as rainy weather or while exercising.

Accessories: A selection of accessories, including the TV Streamer+ and Multi-Mic+, provides additional connectivity options and further enhances the listening experience, allowing for improved audio streaming and multi-microphone use in meetings or group settings.

Dual chip technology
The Resound Vivia 9 offers great speech-in-noise performance, a discreet design, and long-lasting battery life. It features a dual-chip system, combining the established 360 chip technology with a new dedicated chip for Deep Neural Network (DNN) processing. DNN, a form of machine learning and AI, enables the hearing aid to “learn” from its environment, improving its ability to adapt to different soundscapes in real-time.
What does this mean for your hearing? The overall aim is for the hearing aid to function similarly to the brain, providing more accurate sound representation and enhanced speech clarity in noisy settings.
Intelligent Noise Tracker II
Another key feature of the Vivia 9 is its Intelligent Noise Tracker, an advanced AI-powered system that enhances speech clarity while minimising background noise without distortion. Unlike traditional noise reduction systems, which can struggle with abrupt sounds like clattering dishes, laughter, or traffic, often compromising speech clarity, this system better preserves the natural flow of conversation.
It also ensures that important ambient sounds, such as a crackling fire, children playing, or the hum of a restaurant, are not overly suppressed, helping you feel more engaged in your surroundings while still focusing on speech.
Battery life
The typical battery life for the disposable battery models is between 6 and 10 days for size 312 and 6-14 days for size 13. While the RIE models are a solid choice for those who prefer not to use rechargeable batteries, it’s worth noting that Resound’s advanced Intelligence Augmented AI features are exclusive to the rechargeable Vivia 60s miniRIE model.
As with all ranges, your actual battery life may vary depending on factors such as your level of hearing loss, streaming habits, environmental noise, and other usage conditions.
Rechargeability
The Vivia 9 microRIE comes equipped with a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery, delivering up to 30 hours of use on a full charge, though around 24 hours is more typical with regular streaming. Even if you stream audio for half the day, you can still expect up to 20 hours of performance. A quick 10-minute top-up provides approximately 2.7 hours of extra use.
The included charging case is robust and travel-friendly, featuring LED indicators for battery status and an internal power bank that provides up to three additional full charges on the go.
Connectivity
Resound Vivia 9 uses the latest Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio standard for improved connectivity and audio streaming with compatible iOS and Android devices. Unlike older protocols, LE Audio simplifies pairing across devices and supports Auracast, allowing future connections to public audio sources like airport announcements without direct pairing.
However, it may take a few years for Auracast to be widely adopted in public spaces. Hands-free calling is available with iPhone 11 or newer (iOS 18+) and Android phones (OS 13+). Wireless streaming and remote control features vary by model.
The app
The Resound Smart 3D app is a powerful companion for Vivia 9 hearing aids, giving you easy control over volume, program settings, noise reduction, and speech focus. It also shows battery status, helps locate lost hearing aids, and includes Resound Assist for remote support. While Vivia works well on its own, the app adds a lot of personalisation and convenience when you’re out and about.
Resound Assist enables video appointments with your audiologist or remote adjustments without a visit. Just request a change, and your provider can send the update directly to your hearing aids.
Vivia also supports the Tinnitus Sound Generator (TSG), which can be customised by your provider to deliver soothing masking sounds. For more help, the Resound Relief app offers meditation, breathing exercises, and a customisable soundscape tool—ideal for creating calming environments and managing tinnitus-related stress.
Hearing aid models available
At present, the Resound Vivia 9 is available in Receiver-in-Ear (RIE) styles, also known as Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) hearing aids. However, it’s anticipated that Resound will expand the Vivia range to include additional styles, such as In-Ear custom models and Behind-the-Ear (BTE) options. In the meantime, those seeking alternative styles can explore similar options within the Resound Nexia product family.
- Resound Vivia microRIE 60: This rechargeable, Bluetooth-enabled model offers wireless connectivity and comes with a choice of three convenient charging options – desktop, standard, or premium chargers. For those with single-sided deafness, there’s also a CROS version of the microRIE available, providing a tailored solution for more specific hearing needs.
- Resound Vivia RIE 61: A sleek Bluetooth wireless model powered by a size 312 disposable battery, offering reliable performance in a compact form for everyday hearing support.
- Resound Vivia RIE 62: Designed to meet greater hearing or power requirements, the RIE 62 is a Bluetooth wireless model that uses a slightly larger size 13 disposable battery, and telecoil delivering enhanced power and performance for users with more significant hearing needs.
